The Truth Behind the Symptoms of a Sinus Infection

Did you ever trust a school nurse before? I did when she diagnosed my symptoms as a cold. During those days, nobody really doubted a school nurse. Her advice was highly trusted amongst the students. I would always grab several pieces of tissue before going to school and clear up the nasal drainage throughout the day.

A few years later, I started to doubt what the school nurse told me. How could I be sneezing and wiping my nasal drip for so long?” So I decided to pay a visit to the junior high school nurse. She told me that I had allergies.

So I went home and asked my parents about getting allergy medicine. My mom never used it before, although sinus problems were quite hereditary. My parents went to the supermarket and bought the drowsy kind. So when I was in class one day, the teacher talked to me one-on-one and asked me if she could talk to my parents. She actually thought I was taking some illegal drugs. That was when I was 10 years old.

My symptoms of sinus infections escalated from that point forward. There are two types of infections that you can have. This problem is also referred to as sinusitis. Acute and chronic are the 2 types.

Here’s a list of the symptoms

Acute Sinus Infection Symptoms

* Headaches
* Mucus drainage down the back of the throat
* Fever is common
* Facial pain or soreness
* Pressure around the sinus cavities
* Nasal congestion
* Pain behind the eyes
* Nasal discharge
* Vision problems

Symptoms of Chronic Sinusitis

* Prolonged headaches
* Chronic sore throat
* Pain below the eyes
* Pressure across or above your nasal passages
* Bad breath
* Prolonged facial pain
* Toothaches
* Chronic nasal discharge

How Long Until These Sinus Infection Symptoms Disappear?

You can see many similarities between the two. The main difference is how long the symptoms will actually last. Acute sinus infections last for a month or two. As for chronic sinus infections, these typically last for a much longer period of time.

How Can I Treat Sinus Infections?

It might be the case that over-the-counter medications or herbal remedies can assist you. Keep in mind that you should consult a medical professional, especially if you have pre-existing symptoms. I’m guessing that you would want to take a medication without having any problems, wouldn’t you?
