A key tool to address this problem is student drug testing & drug rehab. In June 2002, the U.S. Supreme Court broadened the authority of public schools to test students for illegal drug treatment center if they engage in extracurricular activities. This decision made a powerful, nonpunitive tool available to any school concerned about student drug treatment center.
The Bush Administration has made drug testing & drug rehab a priority and has embarked on a student drug testing & drug rehab drug treatment center intiatives to provide resources for communities across the country that want to test students. Implementing a drug rehab is a local decision and is not linked to Federal education funding. Currently, there are more than 480 federally funded drug rehab in the Nation, and many others supported by community funds.
